Newcastle United have completed the signing of Nigerian-born Denmark Under-21 striker William Osula from Sheffield United.
William Osula, a 21-year-old striker who was born in Denmark to Nigerian parents, joined Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth £15 million.
During his time at Sheffield United, Osula made 31 senior appearances and scored three goals for the club.
Despite the team’s relegation to the Championship, Osula’s potential has not gone unnoticed, and he has also earned five caps for Denmark’s Under-21 team.
Expressing his delight at joining Newcastle United, Osula said, “It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United.”
The manager of Newcastle, Eddie Howe, revealed that the club had been tracking Osula for three years, following a recommendation from assistant manager Jason Tindall.
Howe stated, “He’s a player I’ve known since JT’s [Jason Tindall’s] time at Sheffield United. We’ve been tracking him for three years and he excites us. He has all the raw ingredients to become a great centre-forward.”
Osula’s signing marks Newcastle’s sixth signing this summer, adding to an already impressive list of signings such as Miodrag Pivas, Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly, and Lewis Hall.
Note that William Osula is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, his ancestral home, even though he currently represents the Denmark under-21 team.
