Ndigbo Youth Parliament condemns the Orsu Massacre

Ndigbo Youth Parliament has vehemently condemned the killing of innocent citizens in Orsu LGA of Imo State, which took place on Wednesday, saying that the “despicable act of violence stands in stark opposition to the values of peace, unity, and respect for human life that Ndigbo hold dear”.

This was contained in a press release made available to the media on Friday, signed by the Speaker of Ndigbo Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rikki Chinedu Nwajiofor.

Hon. Rikki Nwajiofor condoled with the families of the victims, while extending the heartfelt condolences of Ndigbo Youth Parliament to all the communities in Orsu LGA. He called on security agencies to act swiftly and professionally in investigating this heinous crime and bringing the perpetrators to justice. He equally appealed “to all stakeholders, including community leaders, government authorities, and the youth, to work together in fostering peace and addressing the root causes of violence in Orsu and beyond”.

The complete text of the press release reads;

“The Ndigbo Youth Parliament (NYP) strongly condemns the horrific and senseless killing of innocent individuals in Orsu LGA, Imo State. This despicable act of violence stands in stark opposition to the values of peace, unity, and respect for human life that Ndigbo hold dear. Ndigbo have esteemed respect for human life; shedding of innocent human blood is inimical to our tradition.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the entire communities in Orsu LGA during this tragic time. Such heinous crimes not only inflict pain on the families and friends of the immediate victims but also threaten the stability and development of our beloved Ala Igbo (Igbo land).

“Ndigbo Youth Parliament calls on security agencies to act swiftly and professionally in investigating this crime and bringing the perpetrators to justice. We also urge restraint and caution in the approach taken by law enforcement to avoid exacerbating the tensions in the region.

“Furthermore, we appeal to all stakeholders, including community leaders, government authorities, and the youth, to work together in fostering peace and addressing the root causes of violence in Orsu and beyond. The escalation of insecurity in the South-East region requires urgent attention and our collective effort to restore normalcy and protect lives cum properties.

“Ndigbo Youth Parliament remains committed to promoting dialogue, understanding, and collaboration in addressing challenges faced by our communities and entire Ala Igbo. We warn against the politicization of this tragic event and reiterate that violence, in any form, has no place in our beloved Ala Igbo.

“Let us join hands to ensure a peaceful and prosperous Igbo land for our generation and the generations to come.
