The crisis within the Labour Party (LP) has escalated as the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties (FNYLPP) distanced itself from Julius Abure and Kennedy Ahanotu, rejecting their roles as the party’s national chairman and national youth leader.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Forum raised concerns about Abure’s tenure, citing its expiration on June 8, 2024, and other irregularities surrounding his leadership, which has been under scrutiny since that time.
Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, the Forum’s spokesman, stated, “Mr. Kennedy Ahanotu, the Deputy National Secretary of the Labour Party, is hereby cautioned to stop presenting himself as the National Youth Leader of the party, or he will face the consequences.”
He continued, “Similarly, Mr. Julius Abure is also warned to cease presenting himself as the National Chairman of the Labour Party for the reasons listed.”
The Forum emphasized that Abure and Ahanotu’s tenures had expired on June 8, 2024. During a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on September 4, 2024, the Labour Party appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Chairperson and Secretary of a 29-member committee to oversee congresses for the All-Inclusive and Expansive National Convention in 2025.
Additionally, the Forum expressed support for Dr. Halimat Tejuosho for the role of Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
