Ace Nigerian hip-hop artist, M.I Abaga, has claimed that veteran rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, is similar to Nigerian singer, Rema, in terms of the energy he had at the beginning of his career.
Naija News reports that M.I. made this known while speaking about his rap inspiration in a recent episode of the Menism podcast.
According to him, Rema, Eedris Abdulkareem, and Burna Boy share some similarities.
He said, “I don’t like it when people say no one paved the way for them. What inspired me to rap was, first of all, the fact that I listen to rap music and I love rap.
“Most people have that story when they are young, there’s something they love. When I was young, I used to do cartoons but there was no animation studio in Nigeria, so I gave up the dream.
“But it’s a different thing when you are a young rapper and you look up and you see Eldee The Don. Then there’s Ruggedman, who brought a new flay to the rap industry. There is also this guy called Eedris Abdulkareem. He was just like Rema.
“When you see Rema now, that was the energy that Eedris had back in the days. He was the Burna Boy of then.
“Rema has it but now that I think about it, I would say Eedris was more like Burna and VDM. He would just say a thing and put it out there and everybody will be singing it. He has a song called ‘Mr Lecturer’ and so many other conscious tracks.”

Nollywood actor cum producer, Femi Adebayo, has opened up about his journey in the entertainment industry and his decision to abandon law.
Naija News reports that in an interview with Pulse, the actor revealed he was earning just ₦20,000 monthly as a lawyer before an acting job changed everything.
According to the movie star, after earning ₦50,000 in three days, that moment led him to fully embrace acting, leaving the law behind.
He said, “Acting was a hobby for me at the time. But then I got offered N50,000 to act for just three days. Meanwhile, my monthly salary as a lawyer was N20,000. That was when I said, ‘Femi, this acting is your calling.’”
In other news, popular Nollywood actor, Afeez Oyetoro, also known as Saka, has shared his early struggles in the movie industry and how it affected his confidence.
He spoke during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, monitored by Naija News.
According to him, he lacked the financial means to take care of himself, which made it difficult for him to approach women he liked.
Saka, who also lectures in the Theatre Arts department at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, said he was acting out of passion as the career did not bring any income or recognition.
He revealed that many people did not take actors seriously at the time, and no one was guiding them on how to make money from the craft.
The movie star also stated that he could not afford a car or other basic things, and this made some women see him as someone without a future.
He recalled how a woman he wanted to marry told him that marriage would only be possible if he owned two cars.
