A married woman who was publicly beaten for allegedly cheating on her partner has been hospitalised after collapsing.
The incident happened on Saturday night, April 16, in the Indian village of Madhya Krishnapur in West Bengal.
The local police told news agency Press Trust of India that the woman’s husband followed by a group of men of fifteen men began beating her, until she lost consciousness following cheating accusations.
They added that the suspected lover was also physically harassed.
“We will send a team to meet the victim to know the actual incident.
“The police has not received any written complaint yet, but there will be an inquiry into the alleged incident“.
In the video circulated on social media, the woman, surrounded by villagers after regaining consciousness, was forced to exchange garlands with her alleged lover as a symbol of marriage as they made loud noises.
The video also showed some young people encouraging the husband to apply vermillion on the woman’s forehead.
