Manchester United have agreed on a transfer deal with Paris Saint Germain for their main transfer target this summer, Manuel Ugarte.
The Premier League giants will pay PSG an initial fee of €50 million, along with an extra €10 million in performance-based add-ons for the midfielder.
Recall that the Red Devils had reached an agreement on personal terms with Manuel Ugarte back in July 2024 but they found it difficult to agree on a fee with PSG. But that has been settled now, and the deal is sealed, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The talented Uruguayan midfielder is expected to sign a five-year deal, with the inclusion of an option for an additional year.
Manuel Ugarte will be heading to Manchester United for medical examinations later today, August 27, before finalizing the move to the English giants.
According to reports, Manchester United’s pursuit of a midfielder this transfer window exclusively centred around Manuel Ugarte, emphasizing him as their top choice for this position.
Ugarte’s playing style is viewed as a perfect fit for the Red Devils’ midfield, a crucial area identified for reinforcement.
While Casemiro is undoubtedly a quality player, it’s perceived that he might lack the required pace to effectively man the defensive midfield position at Manchester United.
Note that Ugarte has drawn comparisons to a younger Casemiro due to his combative nature, physical attributes, and strong tackling abilities.
In addition to his defensive prowess, Ugarte possesses the ability to set up attacking moves for Manchester United from the midfield.
Ugarte made a notable move to Paris Saint Germain from Sporting Lisbon on June 7, 2023, for a fee of €60 million.
During the previous season, the midfielder amassed 37 appearances for the Parisians, recording 3 assists across all competitions.
Manuel Ugarte will mark Manchester United’s 5th signing of the summer, following the signing of Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
The Red Devils have also finalized the signings of Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal, Samuel Lusale from Crystal Palace, and Malian young talent Sekou Kone.
