One Ajibola Akindele has been apprehended in Ogun State for allegedly raping a young lady inside a church.
The suspect, Naija News learnt was arrested on April 16th by men of the Ogun State Police command following reports of his criminal act.
A statement made available to newsmen by the force Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed that Akindele took advantage of being alone with the young girl inside the worship centre and forcefully had his way with her.
The mother of the victim according to Oyeyemi reported the incident at Lafenwa divisional headquarters.
According to her, she had sent her daughter to go and decorate a church in the Ita Oshin area of Abeokuta together with the suspect on the 16th of April 2022.
However, on getting to the church, they met some other women who came to clean the church in preparation for Sunday service
“But soon as those women left after sweeping the church, the suspect took advantage of being alone with the victim and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her inside the church”, the mother was quoted as saying.
Acting swiftly upon the report, the DPO Lafenwa division, CSP Kayode Shadrach, reportedly detailed his detectives to go after the suspect and bring him to justice.
“The detectives moved to the scene and promptly arrested the suspect who has since confessed to the crime”, Oyeyemi noted.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and possible prosecution, Naija News understands.
