Manchester City have updated the club’s fans on the recovery of Pep Guardiola who recently underwent a back surgery.
Due to the surgery that Pep Guardiola underwent in the city of Barcelona, Spain, earlier this week, the Spanish tactician will miss two of the club’s Premier League games – against Sheffield United and Fulham.
In the club’s pre-game press conference ahead of their visit to Sheffield United at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach Juanma Lillo who will be in charge of the game said the Spanish tactician is paying close attention to the game.
However, the assistant coach revealed that Pep Guardiola who will remain in Barcelona for a few more days has decided not to participate in the team’s meeting at Bramall Lane ahead of the clash.
Lillo said while Guardiola continues to heal in Barcelona, Manchester City have been maintaining “continuous” contact with the Spanish tactician.
“Pep is watching Sheffield [United] right now. What’s important is his health. It doesn’t keep him from being who he is. He’s fully focused on the match”, he said.
“He is telling us the surgery has been successful, his recovery has to take the necessary time. He feels fine.”
Lillo added, “We won’t do a video conference because Pep doesn’t want it”.
Lillo returned to City this summer for his second stint as Guardiola’s assistant, having led Qatari team Al-Sadd in the 2022–2023 season.
In their opening two Premier League games of the 2023–24 season, City defeated Burnley 3-0 and Newcastle 1-0 under Guardiola’s watch.
