Lukaku Ruled Out of Napoli’s Serie A Opener, Chelsea Reject Bayern’s Loan Bid for Nkunku

Italian Serie A champions, Napoli have confirmed that their striker, Romelu Lukaku will miss the start of the Serie A season after suffering a serious thigh injury.

The Italian Seria A champions confirmed that the Belgium international tore a muscle in his left thigh during a pre-season friendly against Olympiakos last Thursday. Napoli said the injury was “serious” and suggested the Lukaku, 32, may require surgery.

Although the club did not specify a recovery timeline, Italian media reports claim Lukaku could be sidelined until November.

Napoli, who begin their title defence away to promoted Sassuolo on Saturday, will be without the former Chelsea forward who scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists in their championship-winning campaign under coach Antonio Conte last season.

Meanwhile, Premier League giants, Chelsea have turned down a loan offer from Bayern Munich for forward Christopher Nkunku.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues are only open to a permanent deal for the Frenchman, who has been left out of manager Enzo Maresca’s plans. Nkunku was not included in Chelsea’s squad for the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The 27-year-old previously played in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, where he scored 33 goals in 34 league matches before moving to Stamford Bridge.
