The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially designated August 22, 2024, as the date for the party’s primary elections.
This is in anticipation of the upcoming state government elections.
This announcement was made by the State Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, representing the State Executive Committee.
In his announcement, Ebere emphasized the party’s commitment to conducting a transparent and fair electoral process, urging aspirants to uphold decorum throughout and following the elections.
The party has indicated that participation in the primaries will be limited to executive members, who will serve as automatic delegates.
In light of this, there is an increasing call from many party members at the Local Government and Ward levels for all card-carrying members to be allowed to participate.
They contend that such inclusivity would promote equity, fairness, and justice in the primary elections.
Additionally, the State Organizing Secretary, Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh, has encouraged all candidates to engage with their constituents in their respective councils, assuring that the process will be conducted in a manner that is widely accepted.
He also noted that the party has provisions to support those who do not advance to the main elections, emphasizing that the primary focus should be achieving a successful outcome in the general elections.
