Voting commenced smoothly on Saturday morning at Polling Unit 007, located within St. Stephen’s Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his vote in the ongoing local government elections across Lagos State.
Naija News understands that officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived at the polling unit promptly and began setting up for the electoral process, which officially started at 8:00 a.m., in line with the commission’s schedule.
Among the early voters was the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Jubril Gawat, who exercised his franchise shortly after voting commenced.
A steady flow of voters was observed at the unit, as residents of the area turned out to participate in choosing their local government chairmen and councillors.
Security personnel, including police officers, were visibly present at the scene to maintain order and ensure that the voting process remained peaceful and incident-free.
Saturday’s election is being conducted in all 20 constitutionally recognised Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The exercise is expected to test the readiness of LASIEC and security agencies in handling grassroots elections, as well as gauge voter turnout and public confidence in local governance.
As of the time of filing this report, voting was ongoing without any reported disruptions at the governor’s polling unit.
