The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has dismissed reports claiming that incumbent local government chairmen seeking reelection were instructed to resign before the 2025 council elections.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, the state APC Spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described the report as false and intended to mislead both the public and party members.

Oladejo emphasized that there was no truth to claims that Lagos State APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi had issued such a directive.

He clarified that the directive in question was actually intended for local government party chairmen intending to contest in the upcoming elections, and not for council chairmen seeking reelection.

Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to incumbent Council Chairmen, who intend to seek re-election to resign from their offices.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that there is no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher,” Oladejo said.

He further stated that the directive had been twisted to create confusion and called on party members and the public to disregard the misleading information.

The local government party chairmen, who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released.

“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat the polity,” Oladejo added.

Oladejo assured that APC members and the public should await the official electoral guidelines from the newly reconstituted Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

The spokesperson urged party supporters to focus on promoting activities that foster unity, understanding, and cooperation within the party.
