A well-known traditionalist in Kwara State, Abdullazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, has been released on bail.
Naija News reports that Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim granted bail to Tani Olohun on Monday, sixty-nine days after the accused was remanded at the correctional facility in Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
Recall that the Isese worshipper was initially remanded on August 22, 2023.
During the hearing, Magistrate Ibrahim stated that bail was granted in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties required to provide the same sum. Additionally, one of the sureties must be a blood relative and reside within the jurisdiction of the court. Furthermore, Tani-Oloun is required to appear in court every two weeks, and a register will be maintained for him by the court registrar.
The court has adjourned the case until November 21, 2023.
Naija News reports that Tani Olohun is standing trials before three separate magistrate courts over the alleged offence of defamation of some Islamic scholars in Ilorin.
Two of the cases in the other courts are yet to be determined.
ICPC Files Criminal Charges Against Suspended UNICAL Professor
Meanwhile, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Cyril Ndifon, has been accused of sexual harassment and corruption.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) spokesman, Azuka Ogugua, made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
The ICPC stated that it decided to file criminal charges against the embattled Professor following the conclusion of an investigation into alleged gross misconduct against some of his students.
According to the charge sheet with number: FHC/ABJ/CR/511/2023 released by the Commission, the Senior Lecturer is being arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on sexual harassment, official corruption and abuse of office, contrary to Sections 8, 18 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
The Commission disclosed that Professor Ndifon would be arraigned in court on a date to be given by the court.
Recall that ICPC, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), had on 4th of October, 2023, arrested Professor Ndifon in Calabar, Cross River State, after shunning several invitations extended to him.
