The Katsina State government has declared Monday, July 14, a public holiday to mourn the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News recalls that the former Nigerian leader died on Sunday evening, July 13 in a hospital in London at the age of 82.
The announcement of the holiday was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari.
He explained that the decision was to give residents the chance to grieve and honour the late leader through prayers and reflection.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda also expressed sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful moment for the state and the nation.
He extended his sympathy to Buhari’s family and the people of Katsina, stating that the former president devoted his life to serving Nigeria.
The governor prayed for Buhari’s soul and asked God to forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, have arrived in London, the United Kingdom, to receive the body of the late President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News understands that Shettima, Gbajabiamila, and others in the high-ranking government delegation arrived in London on Monday morning.
The delegation left Nigeria based on the instruction of President Tinubu following the announcement of Buhari’s death in London on Sunday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
The Nigerian delegation to the United Kingdom was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, among others.
