Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to formally rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, 2026, following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.

The governor is also expected to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano State the same day.

A statement signed on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the APC as a familiar political platform for the governor. It recalled that Yusuf first joined the party in 2014, when he won the APC primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a ticket he later conceded to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

According to the statement, Yusuf’s return to the APC followed years of political engagement across different platforms, including his most recent stint in the NNPP. It noted that prevailing realities of governance, national cohesion and development informed the decision to rejoin what he described as a structured platform for progressive governance.

Governor Yusuf said returning to the APC would strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination and improve service delivery across Kano State.

He added that the move would also help consolidate political stability and unity in the state.

On Monday, the governor is expected to formally register as an APC member alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and the 44 local government chairmen in the state.
