The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye, reportedly collapsed on Monday evening in Abuja shortly after attending a meeting at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A reliable source disclosed to Punch that Ijalaye appeared in good spirits throughout the meeting, which was chaired by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The meeting focused on the upcoming off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo States.
However, after returning to his hotel room at the Bon Octagon Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory, Ijalaye suddenly collapsed.
His condition remains uncertain at the time of filing this report.
Ijalaye, who hails from Ondo State, was appointed as Ogun State’s REC in March 2022 following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
