The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and his wife have been released after spending a day in captivity.
The couple was abducted on Friday by unknown gunmen along the Edo-Kogi Expressway while traveling to Abuja for the wedding of Adaora, the daughter of Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
A reliable government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed their release to Punch on Saturday night.
“The kidnapped Commissioner of Youth Development and his wife have been released today. To God be the glory. The state government will soon issue a statement on that,” the source stated.
The commissioner and his wife were reportedly traveling in a commercial Toyota Sienna bus with other passengers when they were abducted.
Tragically, one of the commissioner’s aides, who was also on the journey, was killed during the attack.
Naija News reports that the aide to the commissioner who was shot dead was identified as Mr ABK Offiah.
As of now, the Anambra State government has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or provide further details on the circumstances surrounding their release.
