A suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the candidature of Adetokunbo Abiru as the Lagos East Senator has been thrown out by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
The case was dismissed on Monday by Justice Chuka Obiozor in a five-hour judgment in which he ruled that PDP’s case against Abiru was statute-barred.
It will be recalled that Senator Abiru who contested the December 5, 2020 Lagos East Senatorial bye-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 89,204 votes to comprehensively defeat PDP’s Babatunde Gbadamosi who polled 11,257 votes.
However, not satisfied with the outcome of the polls, the PDP had taken the matter to court and sought an order to stop Abiru from representing Lagos East in the Senate.
Abiru’s legal team was led by Mr Kemi Pinheiro, (SAN) while the PDP was legally represented by Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN).
