Jorge Jesus Joins Al Nassr As Head Coach, Cristiano Ronaldo Reacts

Portuguese tactician, Jorge Jesus has officially joined Al Nassr, where he will now coach fellow countryman and global football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Naija News gathered that Jorge Jesus, 70, signed a one-year deal with Riyadh-based Al Nassr.

“It’s official: Mr. Jorge Jesus is the new Head Coach of Al Nassr,” the club announced via 𝕏 on Tuesday.

Jesus’ appointment comes just weeks after Ronaldo extended his stay with Al Nassr, putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract that keeps him at the club until 2027. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was reportedly consulted before Jesus’ hiring and gave his blessing for the deal.

While Al Nassr fans are still waiting for continental or league glory despite Ronaldo’s 25-goal haul last season, the arrival of Jesus marks a fresh attempt to change that narrative.

Jesus is no stranger to Saudi football. Until May, he was in charge of Al Hilal, Al Nassr’s fiercest rivals, before being sacked following a disappointing Asian Champions League semi-final exit.

Despite that, his résumé remains impressive: during his previous stint at Al Hilal, he clinched a league title, the King’s Cup, and two Saudi Super Cups.

For Ronaldo, this is the second time he will be managed by a Portuguese head coach at Al Nassr, following his time under Luis Castro during the 2023-2024 campaign. Italian boss Stefano Pioli took over briefly last season but has since returned to Serie A with Fiorentina.

Now, with Jorge Jesus on board, there’s renewed optimism that Al Nassr can finally translate star power into silverware.

Ronaldo welcomed his new coach with a simple message on social media: “Welcome.”
