Jigawa: Woman Tragically Sets Herself On Fire After Divorce

In a heartbreaking incident in Guri Local Government Area, Jigawa State, a 40-year-old woman (name withheld) set herself on fire, resulting in her death, after her recent divorce.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, stated that the tragic event occurred in Garin Mallam village.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the woman allegedly used petrol to set herself on fire.

On Thursday at about 0740hrs, the command, received a heartbreaking and pitful incident from Guri LGA that a woman, aged 40 of Garin Mallam village, poured petrol on her body, set herself ablaze, and got burnt beyond recognition on the outskirts of the village.

“Following this report, a squad of officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters raced to the scene and verified the incident.

”The officers took the charred body to the hospital and later released the corpse to the family for burial,” Shiisu said.

Initial investigations suggest that the woman had been struggling with severe depression following her divorce.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmadu Abdullahi, urged people to seek divine guidance and consult with elders during difficult times to prevent such tragic outcomes.

Protesters Storm Jigawa Govt House, Demand Sack Of Commissioner

Meanwhile, protesters from Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State marched to the Government House in Dutse on Thursday, calling for the removal of the state’s Agriculture Commissioner, Muttaka Namadi.

The protesters, who gathered in large numbers, blocked the main entrance of the Government House, chanting slogans expressing their dissatisfaction with Namadi’s performance.

Muttaka Namadi hails from Ringim LGA, but the demonstrators accused him of failing to represent the interests of his constituency effectively in the state executive council.

The protesters, who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, were drawn from the 10 political wards and 220 polling units of the local government area.
