The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Expanded Caucus in Jigawa State has thrown its weight behind the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BOT), and National Executive Committee (NEC), commending their ongoing efforts to revitalise the party.
This was contained in a communiqué issued to journalists by the state Publicity Secretary, Umar Kyari, at the end of the caucus meeting held on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital.
Naija News reports that the gathering attracted hundreds of PDP executives, including the party’s state leader and former governor, Sule Lamido, stalwarts, and members from all 287 wards across the 27 local government areas.
The communiqué applauded the “coordinated steps” taken by the national leadership to reposition the PDP for renewed strength ahead of future elections.
“We commend the NWC, BOT, NEC, and other party organs for the arrangements already in place for the forthcoming national convention,” the statement read, adding that the measures were in line with the party’s constitution, rules, and regulations.
The caucus reaffirmed its loyalty to Lamido and the State Working Committee led by Babandi Gumel, stressing that the declaration underscored “firm grassroots support and cohesion within the party ranks.”
It also praised National Assembly members from the state for championing key developmental projects and empowerment programmes, describing their efforts as crucial to party goodwill and public support.
Call for Electoral Sanctions
In a strong call for accountability, the caucus urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanction three of its staff accused of misconduct during the recent Babura/Garki Federal Constituency by-election.
The communiqué described the demand as a “necessary step for safeguarding free and fair elections.”
The PDP family also commended party members across Jigawa for their resilience and strong participation during the Babura/Garki by-election, despite what it called challenges in the process.
The communiqué further encouraged members to maintain calm and rally behind decisions from the national leadership as Nigeria’s political dynamics unfold.
“All members of the party are urged to remain calm and support all decisions of the party’s National Leadership as political events unfold in the country,” it stated.
The caucus vowed to consolidate recent gains and sustain engagements with grassroots units to ensure inclusiveness and momentum ahead of future contests.
It concluded with a call for solidarity and constructive engagement among members in Jigawa and across Nigeria to achieve shared political goals.
