It's A Welcome Development - Gbajabiamila Commends 2027 Coalition

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the formation of an opposition coalition towards the 2027 elections as a welcome development.

Speaking on Saturday after casting his vote in the Lagos State local government election, Gbajabiamila submitted that a credible opposition is needed to prevent Nigeria from slipping into a one-party state.

The former House of Representatives Speaker, however, hinted that the coalition may not survive the test of time, arguing that it is not the first time that a coalition has come together in the country.

“It’s a welcome development with the coalition. It’s not the first time we’re seeing this. It’s a welcome development.

“In every democracy, we must have some level of opposition otherwise we’ll run into a one-party state. But I’m not sure where it would go,” he said.

Naija News recalls that some prominent opposition leaders in Nigeria, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, Labour Party chieftain, Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, are championing the 2027 coalition of opposition figures aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu at the polls.

They have formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform to actualize their dreams in the 2027 polls.

Gbajabiamila, however, expressed uncertainty about the prospect of the coalition.
