The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested Usman Bugaje for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari’s handling of insecurity across the country.
It was gathered that Bugaje, a politician and scholar, was arrested by the secret police after appearing on AIT.
Sources told Peoples Gazette that Bugaje had been in DSS custody since 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Recall that the politician added his voice to growing concerns amongst Nigerians about insecurity. He had previously condemned Buhari’s failure to tackle the economy, as well as his sectional appointments.
It was not immediately clear whether the SSS would release Bugaje today. A spokesman for the service did not immediately return a request seeking comments.
Bugaje’s arrest came barely a few weeks after the SSS invited then detained Obadiah Mailafia, a former CBN chief who similarly criticised insecurity and accused politicians of being behind the expanding crisis.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday said the administration of the ruling All Progressives Congress will not extend beyond 2023.
Makinde in his statement said Nigerians are already tired of APC and would kick it out of power at the general elections.
The Oyo State Governor stated this at the inauguration of the South-West PDP Zonal Executives, held at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan.
According to Makinde, there is an urgent need to address the challenges of insecurity and economic recession.
He also called on members of his party to show Nigerians that it is prepared take power back at the centre.
