Insecurity: Bandits Invade Two Nasarawa Agencies, Steal Valuables

Two agencies of the Nasarawa State Government have been invaded by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

Naija News reports that the gunmen, around 2:00 am on Monday, stormed the state Local Government Civil Service Commission and the Civil Service Commission located along Makurdi road, Lafia

In an interview with Daily Trust, the Permanent Secretary of the local government commission, Rammatu Julde, said before invading the offices, the gunmen subdued two civil defence officers on duty and collected their rifles.

She said the criminals came through the main gate linking the local government commission and civil service commission and robbed for three hours.

Julde disclosed that the gunmen carted away two televisions and a safe box containing valuable documents of the commission.

She, however, revealed that no life was lost during the incident, adding that the commission is presently doing the stocktaking to know other items that were stolen.

She said: “Some gunmen invaded our premises in the early hours of Monday at 2am to be precise.

“They came through the main gate linking the local government commission and civil service commission and during the operation, they were able to tie down two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps who were guarding the premises and collected their Ak-47 guns.

“They attempted to take away our 150 KVA generator, but they could not succeed but they took away the safe where valuable documents of the commission were kept

“We are presently doing the stocktaking to know other items that were carted away”

Also reacting, the Public Relations Officer of the NSDC in the state, Jerry Victor, said the gunmen invaded the commissions and carried out their plans without any hindrance.

He said an investigation is currently ongoing and the officers have been detained at the command headquarters in Lafia.

He said: “Two of our officers who were securing the offices were tied down with ropes and they collected their Ak-47 gun.

“The officers have been detained in our command headquarters here in Lafia and investigation is currently ongoing.”
