The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its Continuous Voter Registration exercise will take place in 811 centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Naija News reports that the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement issued after the commission’s regular meeting in Abuja.
Olumekun said the CVR would resume on August 18 with online pre-registration, while in-person registration would commence a week later on August 25.
“Thereafter, the two processes will continue simultaneously for a year until August 30,” he said.
According to him, the exercise will run from 9 am to 3 pm (Monday to Friday) in all 774 Local Government offices as well as INEC offices in the 36 states and FCT, except on national public holidays.
For easy access to registration points, INEC said it will deploy an online CVR Live Locator, which goes live on August 17 at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
Olumekun said the commission had uploaded a 38-page document to its website listing the addresses of all 811 in-person registration centres.
Dedicated telephone help desk numbers for each state have also been provided for further clarification, he noted.
“The procedure for both the online and in-person registrations remains the same as was the case in 2022. Detailed information on the process, including video clips, will once again be released by the commission next week,” he added.
Surge In Political Party Registration Requests
Olumekun also revealed that since the July 23 update on requests for party registration, the commission had received eight additional letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total to 151.
Details of the latest applications, including proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses and interim leadership, have been uploaded to INEC’s website and official online platforms, Naija News understands.
“Having created the portal for party registration, the commission has commenced the shortlisting of the associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage. Details will be released immediately after the 16 bye-elections in 12 states scheduled for Saturday, August 16,” he said.
Olumekun assured Nigerians that the commission would continue to keep citizens informed about all its activities, stressing its commitment to transparency in electoral processes.
