The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has communicated with the advocates of the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA) to confirm receipt of their application for registration as a political party in Nigeria.
In a correspondence dated June 27, 2025, and signed by the Secretary of the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC acknowledged that the application submitted by ADA’s Protem National Chairman on June 19, 2025, is currently under review.
The Commission concluded its correspondence by expressing its highest regards to the applicants, a customary yet formal indication that the application will receive appropriate consideration.
“The Commission is processing your application in line with the provision of Part 1, clause 2(ii) of our Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022,” the letter stated.
Naija News reports that if registration is successful, ADA will become part of an expanding roster of political platforms presenting themselves as alternatives to Nigeria’s leading parties in anticipation of the upcoming 2027 electoral cycle.
INEC announced earlier this week that it has received 110 applications for registration as political parties.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Peering Advocacy and Advisory Centre in Africa, Ezenwa Nwagu, has described the 110 associations applying to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be registered as political parties as jokers.
Naija News reports that the INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, had on Wednesday, during the Commission’s second Quarterly Meeting with the Media, disclosed that as of Monday, June 23, 2025, the electoral management body has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties.
Speaking with Arise Television, Nwagu pointed out that certain conditions must be met, stressing that many of the associations lack an acronym, a constitution, a chairman, a secretary, and a valid address, or have addresses that do not exist.
According to him, it is on record that as many as seventy of such associations have had their offices in cemeteries.
