The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of over 30 persons in a boat accident in Kebbi State.
Naija News recalls that at least 40 people were, on Tuesday, feared dead in a boat accident on River Niger in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The boat with 50 traders and their goods had taken off from Kasabo village and was heading for Yauri town for commercial activities on Monday when the boat was struck by strong waves and capsized.
Reacting to the development in a post on X on Wednesday, Atiku said the increasing number of lives lost to boat accidents in the country is deeply saddening and alarming.
He called for urgent and comprehensive measures to be put in place to ensure the safety and regulation of the nation’s waterways to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
The former Vice President, therefore, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in the boat accident.
He wrote: “I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.
“The increasing number of lives lost to boat accidents in our country is deeply alarming. Urgent and comprehensive measures must be put in place to ensure the safety and regulation of our waterways to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.”
