The Imo State Police Command has vowed to deal decisively with those peddling fake news about the state.
The command gave the warning in a tweet in the wake of the circulation of a viral video that alleged that Police officers in the state were killed during a confrontation with men of the Nigerian Army.
The Spokesman of the State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said the police would deal decisively with mischief makers circulating false information capable of causing apprehension among residents of Imo state.
“Imo Police Command will deal decisively with mischief makers circulating false information capable of causing apprehension amongst the good people of Imo State. Our eyes are on the watch, we’ll certainly arrest and prosecute them in accordance with the law. Be warned!!,” the post reads.
Naija News recalls that the Imo command had earlier refuted a now-viral video that suggested that the police in the state were attacked by men of the Nigerian army.
The state command said that the purported incident happened in Abakaliki in Ebonyi state.
“The Command wishes to put the record straight that there was no record of any incident of attack and killing of Police Officers in Imo State yesterday, 17/11/2023.
“The incident shown in the viral video happened at Nwofe road, outskirts of Abakiliki Town and Ebonyi State Police Command has issued a statement confirming the attack, stating further that an intense manhunt is ongoing to hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act,” the earlier statement read.
