Imo CP Bans Use Of Unmarked Buses, Tricycles For Police Patrols

The Imo State command of the Nigeria Police Force has banned the use of unmarked mini-buses and commercial tricycles (Keke) for patrol operations across the state.

Naija News reports that the order followed a wave of public complaints over alleged harassment and extortion by some tactical police officers.

In a directive issued on Tuesday night, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aboki Danjuma, described the practice as “grossly unprofessional” and warned that erring operatives would face serious disciplinary action.

The CP gave a firm order to all tactical units operating within Imo State to desist from using unmarked vehicles, including buses and Keke, for patrol purposes.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a firm directive banning all tactical teams from using unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), for patrols across the state,” the statement read.

According to the CP, the decision was prompted by numerous complaints of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some police operatives who allegedly operated in disguise, using unregistered vehicles to exploit unsuspecting members of the public.

The police boss warned that any team found violating the directive would face immediate sanctions, and that commanders of such units would be held vicariously liable for any misconduct traced to their men.

The CP described the act as grossly unprofessional and warned that any team found violating this directive will face immediate sanctions.

“Commanders of such teams will be vicariously held liable,” Danjuma stated.

The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ethical standards, stressing that it remains aligned with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to restore public trust in law enforcement.
