Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, launched the Nigeria Police Intelligence School in Kwara on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The police boss emphasised the importance of a proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-focused strategy in policing to effectively tackle the security issues confronting Nigeria.
Naija News reports that Egbetokun highlighted that ongoing training, capacity enhancement, the integration of modern technologies, and partnerships among the police, educational institutions, and local communities are vital for creating a safe and secure environment for all Nigerians.
The inauguration was succeeded by an inaugural lecture presented by the police chief, alongside senior police officials, at the Al-Hikmah University Centre for Peace and Security Studies.
Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, remarked that the IGP’s perspective on sustainable peace and development acknowledges the necessity of addressing environmental, economic, human, and food security issues to effectively mitigate security challenges.
Adejobi said, “The inspector general of police hereby assures that the Nigeria Police Force will continually pursue strategies aimed at enhancing its intelligence capabilities and proactive community engagements to bridge the schism between the Police and members of the public.”
The police urged Nigerians to use Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) and other permissible technological devices to assist the force in combating crime.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as false a report published by a newspaper, which claimed that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects had been arrested in various parts of Lagos State.
Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, issued a statement on Thursday, stating that he ordered an immediate investigation into the publication.
The findings, according to the police, revealed that no such arrests had been made anywhere in the state.
The statement further explained that police investigations included visits to the trailer parks and communities mentioned in the report. Leaders, operators, and drivers in these areas confirmed that no Boko Haram suspects had been seen or apprehended.
In addition to these visits, surveillance detectives, the State Intelligence Department (SID), and other security units were deployed to verify the claims.
The investigation confirmed that none of the stakeholders or sources in the mentioned locations could corroborate any presence or arrest of Boko Haram suspects.
The police described the publication as “entirely false, malicious, and ill-intentioned,” intended to create unnecessary fear and tension among Lagos residents.
The police advised Lagosians to disregard the report and continue their lawful activities without fear, as the police remain committed to ensuring peace and security in the state.
