I Was Livid! – Tunde Bakare Speaks On Sunday Igboho’s House Raid, Clears Buhari

Why I Got Zero Votes In APC Presidential Primaries - Pastor Bakare

The General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has disclosed that late President Muhammadu Buhari had no hand in the controversial raid on the residence of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

He disclosed this during an interview on Television Continental’s programme, Beyond The Headlines.

Bakare stated that he was angry when he heard about the invasion, but Buhari sent for him and disclosed that he was not responsible for the attack.

“I was really livid, and I remember saying, ‘You will never see me again while ministering.’ And then he sent for me and said, ‘Do you know I knew nothing about it?’ I said, ‘I wouldn’t know. It’s under your watch,” Bakare recounted.

The former presidential aspirant explained that Buhari told him some security agencies often acted independently and later claimed they were following orders.

There are so many things that security people would do, initiatives they would take, that they would now say they were acting on instruction,” he quoted Buhari as saying.

Regarding the economy, Bakare admitted that some of the policies introduced under Buhari’s government had lasting negative effects, but cautioned against blaming the former president entirely for the country’s economic woes.

General Buhari was not an economist. He had people in charge of that.

“Yes, some of the economic decisions made back then, we’re still seeing the effect in our nation today. But it would be wrong to put everything on the head of one man,” he said.

Bakare also condemned corruption within government agencies, citing cases such as the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Pension Commission.

I was totally livid when I saw the Accountant-General of the Federation milking resources. I thought he should be in jail,” he stated.

The cleric noted that despite Buhari’s efforts to curb corruption, entrenched systemic issues allowed some individuals to manipulate the system for personal gain.
