Former presidential media aide during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has denied ever being a spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He stated that Atiku approached him to be his spokesperson, but he turned down the offer.
Naija News reports Omokri made the disclosure during a chat on The Honest Bunch podcast while negating a comment made by one of the anchors that he gained more public prominence as a spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Explaining his reason for rejecting the offer, Omokri said he can’t be a spokesperson for a president and then be a spokesperson for a presidential candidate after that.
He submitted that he hired some more people to join others who were already working in Atiku’s media team.
“I wasn’t spokesperson for Alhaji. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar wanted me to be his spokesperson. I said no, I’m not going to be a spokesperson for a president and then be a spokesperson for a presidential candidate. But, I will hire your media team, He already had some media people in place,” Omokri said.
Speaking further on his role in building Atiku’s media team, Omokri claimed during the programme that he hired popular Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, to join Atiku’s media team.
Clarifying his statement, Omokri said he has records to back up his claim that he hired Sowunmi, set his salary and told him when to resume.
“I hired Segun Showunmi; I interviewed him and set his salary,” Omokri added.
