I Have Suffered In This Economy - Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has cried out that he has suffered much loss in his business due to the current economic policies of President Bola Tinubu.

Senator Orji Uzor, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, said he has also suffered humiliation from apparatus of government. He said he has not been immuned from the economic hardship caused the federal government policies.

Orji Uzor said this in a video posted on his X handle, on Thursday. He appealed to Nigerian youths not to protest against the policies of the federal government. He said he was sure President Tinubu would not allow the hardship and hunger experienced by citizens to continue.

People like me have built businesses. I have suffered in this economy. I have suffered losses caused by apparatus of government, suffered humiliation caused by apparatus of government, but I still have believe in the unity and oneness of the country. I hope that Tinubu will resolve the issues. He will not be a fool to leave us hungry,” he said.

The former governor of Abia State advised Nigerians not to follow the example of Kenya youths. He explained that while protest is good for democracy, it is not good for economic development.

The former Chief Whip of the 9th Senate added President Tinubu inherited a bad economy that would require time to fix. He said President Tinubu has not been happy that citizens are suffering.

Orji Uzor Kalu called on Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and all unions to shun the planned August protest.

He said the President should be given more time to fix the country. He noted that citizens are hungry and are right to be angry, but should not engage in protest.

Senator Orji Uzor explained, “I know times are very hard, but this is not the time that we should go to protest. Going for protest now, well, it might be beneficial for our democracy but expedient for our economic development.

“I want to appeal to all CSOs, all youths, and all people who are thinking that what happened in Kenya can happen in Nigeria to shelve those plans. Give President Tinubu a little more time it is too early to judge what he is doing.

“There is no president that will be elected by any country and will be happy that the citizens are suffering. I know that President Tinubu himself knows that we are hungry. he knows that we are hungry. he knows that we are suffering.

“He knows that things are not the way it is used to be. I’m sure and I am convinced that he is working on it. My appeal might not be too heavy. My appeal is to youths, the CSOs, NLC, TUC and all the unions not to damage our present infrastructure.

“Replacement is too heavy, this is 2024. The oil money is not running as it used to be. Tinubu is not the owner of the country. Very soon he will go back to Lagos. Please let’s give him some time. It is difficult to resolve what has gone wrong with this economy to be resolved in few years.
