Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, expressed his regret over having to bench key players during their recent 2-1 victory against Newcastle United in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Notably absent from the starting lineup were star talents such as Brazilian midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, Spanish defender, Marc Cucurella, and Spanish forward, Joao Felix, leaving fans and pundits alike curious about Enzo Maresca’s decision.
Despite the absence of these established players, Chelsea managed to secure the win, with crucial contributions from Nicolas Jackson, who scored in the 18th minute, and Cole Palmer, adding to the scoreline in the 47th minute.
However, the match wasn’t without its challenges; Chelsea conceded a goal in the 32nd minute when Newcastle’s Alexander Isak found the back of the net, briefly narrowing the Blues’ lead.
After the match, Maresca addressed the media, saying, “Every game, I feel bad. I feel shame because I have to leave players out, but it’s the only way to try to compete.”
