Popular Nollywood actor, Afeez Oyetoro, also known as Saka, has shared his early struggles in the movie industry and how it affected his confidence.
He spoke during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, monitored by Naija News.
According to him, he lacked the financial means to take care of himself, which made it difficult for him to approach women he liked.
Saka, who also lectures in the Theatre Arts department at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, said he was acting out of passion as the career did not bring any income or recognition.
He revealed that many people did not take actors seriously at the time, and no one was guiding them on how to make money from the craft.
The movie star also stated that he could not afford a car or other basic things, and this made some women see him as someone without a future.
He recalled how a woman he wanted to marry told him that marriage would only be possible if he owned two cars.
“I didn’t have confidence. It took me a long time to start toasting women. There was no money in acting then nobody recognized the actor. We were just doing it out of passion and they did not teach us how to make money from the theatre.
“I had no car so obviously when you call a girl to marry they will say no, there’s no future for this man in fact one of them told me why don’t you quit acting, you’re wasting your life leave this theatre go and do something relevant for your life.
“The one that i was actually supposed to marry you was demanding that i must have two cars before she get married to me then something told me Afeez, this is not your wife so i ran away from there. It was when i got to the school, I got married”, he said.
Afeez Oyetoro is married to Olaide Oyetoro, and they have three children.
