President Muhammadu Buhari has warned bandits that his administration has the capacity to crush them and wipe them out.
Naija News reports that more than 60 people were killed in attacks on Gobirawa, Rini, Gora, and Madoti Dankule in Bakura and Maradun LGAs in Zamfara State.
It was gathered the bandits invaded the communities on Wednesday on motorcycles and shot sporadically before killing the residents.
But in a statement on Thursday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, President Buhari condemned the killings of residents of the communities by bandits.
He reassured residents of the state of his administration’s determination to defeat the enemies, despite the latest setback.
The statement reads: “The insane and persistent violence against innocent people must stop”, adding that “such wanton disregard for life will be brought to an end sooner than later”.
“These criminals should stop pushing their luck too far by believing that the government lacks the capacity to crush them,” the president was quoted to have said in a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, on Thursday.
“The violence against poor villagers who are struggling with poverty and other severe economic challenges is not going to be tolerated by this administration.”
The President charged the security forces to “redouble their efforts in bringing an end to this mindless violence against innocent people.
He also directed the military, security, and intelligence agencies to take immediate steps to close all existing gaps in their operations being exploited by criminals to wreak havoc.
“Let’s not give these criminals any opportunity to succeed by taking the war to their own camps and stop them in their tracks before they even have the time to respond under our massive firepower,” he added.
He expressed hope the Special Operation launched by the military on Thursday morning from Maru Local Government area will prove decisive in ridding the state of the “frequent and horrifying “bandit activities.
