No Need To Threaten Kukah – Shehu Sani Tells Islamic Group

Former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani has meddled into the ongoing controversy over the use of Hijab by female students in Kwara State schools.

The 8th National Assembly lawmaker in a post on his Twitter account on Monday, March 8, urged the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led government not to allow the choice of school uniform bring about any controversy in his state.

Sani stressed that the government should allow students whose parents want them to wear a Hijab as part of their school uniform to do so while those against it should not be forced to wear it. The lawmaker stressed that Kaduna State where he belonged, has been using dual uniforms for over two decades now.

His tweet reads: “The Hijab as a School Uniform should NOT cause any controversy. Those who want their children to wear it should be allowed to wear it. Those who don’t want their children to wear it, should NOT be forced to do so. Dual uniforms have been used in Kaduna for over two decades.”

Naija News understands that Sani’s reaction to the Hijab wearing was coming after the Kwara State government announced a decision to shut down 10 public/grant-aided schools over the controversy surrounding the government policy on the use of hijab in such schools.

The government in a statement on Sunday evening signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun said the schools will remain shut till further notice for safety concerns, Naija News reports.
