The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two adults who were said to be engaged in a dirty public fight.
It was during the investigation to the cause of their fight that Adeniyi Samuel, 29, confessed to the police that the other had hired him to kill his pregnant wife but refused to fulfil his promise after completing the ‘job’, Naija News understands.
According to Adeniyi, Wasiu Eluyera, the husband of the victim (Bola Taiwo) had offered him ₦10,000 to take her life.
It was revealed that Eluyera, 35, was trying to get rid of Taiwo in order to keep her pregnancy from his new wife.
Confirming the disturbing act, the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the two suspects were nabbed following a distress call received by the DPO of Ogijo divisional headquarters, Muhammed Baba.
He said the DPO was reached by concerned members of the public on January 1, 2022, reporting that the duo had engaged in a serious brawl at the Oponuwa area of Ogijo.
Oyeyemi said a team of officers were quickly dispatched to the scene and arrested the two men.
“It was during interrogation to know the cause of the fight that Adeniyi Samuel opened up and informed the police that Eluyera Wasiu contracted him to kill his pregnant wife, one Bola Taiwo,” the PPRO noted.
“He stated further that Eluyera Wasiu promised to give him N10,000 for the job, out of which he had already given him N5,000 to pay the balance on completion of the job,” he added.
According to Oyeyemi, a police preliminary investigation revealed that Wasiu had been married to Bola Taiwo before they got separated.
Naija News understands that Wasiu later got married to another woman, now reportedly living with him.
However, he reunited with Taiwo, who later got pregnant. To stop his new wife from knowing about the pregnancy, Wasiu had requested Taiwo to abort the pregnancy, but she rejected the plot.
After several efforts to see the pregnancy aborted had failed, he reportedly resolved to kill her, Oyeyemi noted.
The PPRO noted further that Wasiu had confessed “that he had twice bought food for Taiwo from one eatery and laced the food with poison, but the lady by providence did not eat the food.
“It was when all his personal efforts to kill her failed that he contracted Adeniyi Samuel to help him eliminate her,” Oyeyemi quoted Wasiu to have written in a statement.
Wasiu was said to have confessed further that he personally took his accomplice to Taiwo’s house, giving him her photo for easy identification.
“But when he didn’t carry out the assignment as agreed, he demanded the refund of the advance payment he made to him, and his refusal led to the fight which led to their arrest,” Oyeyemi further explained.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has ordered a full-scale investigation of the case.
