England international, Harry Kane has revealed why he left Tottenham Hotspur, his childhood club, for German Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich this summer.
Harry Kane is a product of the Tottenham Hotspur football system and has gone on loan to a couple of lowly-rated clubs after he gained promotion to Spurs’ senior team on January 1, 2011.
After playing on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich, and then Leicester City, the 30-year-old English striker went on to become Spurs’ all-time highest goalscorer. Harry Kane scored 280 goals and provided 64 assists in 435 games in all competitions for Spurs.
Despite breaking a series of records, and winning a series of Golden Boots, he couldn’t win any major title for Spurs. Hence, he decided to leave the club for a club where he can win trophies.
Luckily for him, after a series of back and forth between Spurs and Bayern, the club agreed on a €100 million fixed transfer fee for him in August 2023 and he finally sealed his move to the German Bundesliga serial winners.
Harry Kane almost won his first major title on his debut for Bayern in the DFL Super Cup on August 12 but RB Leipzig stunned them with a 3-0 win to deny them the title.
In an interview with German and international press, Harry Kane said he joined Bayern Munich to compete for titles and play in the UEFA Champions League, two things he wasn’t able to enjoy consistently at Spurs.
He said, “I’ve always wanted to push my limits and improve and see how far that can take me.
“Ultimately, I wanted to be playing at the highest level, to be playing in the Champions League, fighting for titles every year. Coming to Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world gives me that opportunity.”
Harry Kane is expected to make his German Bundesliga debut on Friday, August 18, when Bayern travel to Bremen to take on Werder Bremen.
