Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has thrown his weight behind the newly-appointed APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, describing his emergence as “strategic and timely” for the party’s growth.
Naija News reports that Ganduje, in a statement issued Thursday night, said the appointment of Yilwatda by the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) marks a pivotal moment in the life of the ruling party, coming ahead of critical political realignments.
Commending the decision, Ganduje expressed profound confidence in the new party chair’s ability to steer the APC in the right direction.
Ganduje, who stepped down from the party’s top job due to health reasons, urged his successor to build on the foundation laid by previous leaders, including his own contributions and those of his predecessor, Abdullahi Adamu.
The former Kano State governor also praised the APC NEC and other party organs for conducting, in his words, a transparent and consensus-driven process that led to Yilwatda’s emergence.
He particularly commended President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for what he termed their statesmanlike role and wisdom during the transition process.
He said, “Our President and Vice President have once again shown maturity and far-sightedness in the affairs of our great party. Their commitment to ensuring cohesion and stability within the APC is commendable, and I urge all stakeholders to rally around the new leadership to deliver on the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Ganduje called on the National Working Committee NWC, NEC, state chapters, youth and women wings, as well as all other stakeholders of the APC, to offer their full cooperation and unwavering support to the new chairman, stressing that unity, discipline, and loyalty must remain the cornerstone of the party under the new leadership.
He added, “As I bow out with a sense of fulfilment, I wish to assure Prof. Yilwatda of my unflinching support, counsel, and brotherly solidarity. I urge all our leaders, governors, lawmakers, and faithful party members across the federation to queue behind him and give him the necessary backing to consolidate on our party’s vision of building a united, progressive, and inclusive political platform for all Nigerians.”
The former Governor of Kano prayed for divine wisdom and strength for the new chairman as he assumes leadership at a time he described as one of both “opportunity and responsibility.”
