Fresh controversy has erupted following the sudden resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, with a close associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, claiming there’s more to the political realignment than meets the eye.
In an interview with the Saturday Punch, Galadima said that while he was not officially informed about any plans by Kwankwaso to defect to the APC, he was aware of a high-level meeting that allegedly sealed Ganduje’s fate and possibly that of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Galadima said, “I am not aware of the defection plan. However, I know Kwankwaso and Ganduje have personal issues. I am equally aware that there was a meeting of APC stakeholders and the presidency three days ago where they agreed that Ganduje and Shettima should be sacrificed to bring a new set of people into government and the party.”
The allegation has further complicated the political equation ahead of 2027, especially as Shettima has so far maintained a relatively quiet profile amid recent party shakeups.
When Saturday Punch reached out to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for comments, the party’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, declined to make any definitive statement.
“I am not aware of such a move, and I can’t speak further on it for now,” Johnson said.
Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is yet to publicly confirm or deny the defection rumour.
