Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led government of Kwara State has vowed to prioritise the lives of its citizens as Fulani herders troop into the state.
The government assured residents that necessary measures had been taken to ensure good report between host communities and herders in the state.
Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Professor Mamman Sabbah Jibril revealed this while speaking with reporters in Ilorin, the state capital on Saturday, January 30, Naija News understands.
In agreement with the government’s effort to ensure no crisis between herders and host communities, the leadership of Miyetti Allah also warned against night grazing or cattle grazing by underage persons.
”In the light of some unfortunate developments in some neighbouring states, we urge our people not to entertain any fear as proactive measures have been taken and are being taken to maintain peace and ensure security of lives and property of every resident,” said Jibril.
He added that “The government is working with all security agencies, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) of local governments and the leadership of Miyetti Allah to strengthen the existing peace between various economic interests,”
“At the instance of His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, the office of the SSG has held briefings with various stakeholders across the state on the need to ensure that all hands are on deck to protect lives and property.
Naija News understands that security agencies, the DPMs across the 16 local government areas have also been directed to work with local communities to legitimate herders to keep the peace.
The statement warned both the host communities and the herders to remain law-abiding and avoid taking laws into their own hands.
The call for peace in the state was coming following the eviction of Sarkin Fulani of Oyo State, Salihu Abdulkadir, and his people from Igangan in Ibarapa Local Government Area of the state.
Naija News had reported earlier that Abdulkadir and his family members have relocated to Ilorin, following the incident that resulted in the loss of his house and valuable properties in Igangan.
