A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Sunny Onuesoke, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu has proven to Nigerians that he has no interest in reviving the nation’s refineries.

The PDP chieftain criticized the Nigerian leader for not addressing his strategy to eliminate the importation of refined products during his national address to the citizens of Nigeria last Sunday.

Naija News reports that Tinubu delivered a nationwide broadcast last Sunday following the chaotic events that happened across some states as aggrieved citizens stormed the streets to protest the hunger crisis and worsening economic situation in the country, among others.

In response to the President’s speech, Onuesoke described it as a total waste of time and a source of embarrassment for the Nigerian populace.

He further noted that the President neglected to outline any immediate measures to tackle the escalating inflation affecting food, fuel, and other essential commodities, which has left many Nigerians in severe hunger and poverty.

“President Tinubu has shown that he lacks the capacity and political will to stop the importation of fuel and refined products to the benefit of a few cabals holding the country to ransom.

“President Tinubu has also proven to Nigerians that he is not interested in getting our refineries to work.

“The Federal Government led by President Tinubu appears overwhelmed and does not have solutions to the lingering banditry, kidnapping, farmers and herdsmen crisis leading to a shortage of farm produce,” Onuesoke said in a statement on Monday.

He urged President Tinubu to give his full support to Dangote Refinery and other functioning private refineries to produce sufficient refined products.

“The President, being the Minister of Petroleum, must get the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries to start work as soon as possible to bring the prices of fuel down, as that is the only way to drop the inflation,” he stated.
