Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, has apologized to his “loyal fans” who he insulted after they criticized him for erroneous goalkeeping.
Francis Uzoho has been known for not being at his best in between the sticks for the Super Eagles in recent times, especially in the last friendly game against Mozambique.
During the friendly game which took place in Portugal on October 16, 2023, Francis Uzoho conceded a very cheap goal as the Super Eagles struggled to beat Mozambique who played with a man less throughout the last 45 minutes.
After the friendly game, Uzoho, who currently plays for Cypriot First Division club Omonia, became the subject of criticism both online and offline.
Most Super Eagles fans questioned why coach Jose Pasiero kept inviting the 24-year-old goalkeeper and starting him in games despite his numerous errors.
In reaction to the series of criticism, Francis Uzoho took to his Snapchat account on Tuesday to share a picture of himself and captioned it in pidgin: “If easy go do am, make oyibo man sign you”, with peace emoji.
The post attracted more criticism for the goalkeeper, forcing him to issue a statement via his social media account on Thursday, October 19, to apologize for his outburst.
Francis Uzoho wrote: “It has come to my attention that my recent Snapchat has not been my best behaviour towards you all as my loyal fans.
“I apologize for this as it was not my intention to conduct myself in such a manner toward the fans who have supported and motivated me through my career.
“My actions were more a result of frustration stemming from the actions of someone in my circle (will keep the identity private for now).
“Accepting criticism is part of my job and one that I often welcome from the people who continue to support me. I accept your criticisms with the utmost respect and understanding that you all want me to do better.
“I want you all to know that I continue to grow daily as a person and in my career and you all are a vital part of my growth and success. My actions are aimed to reflect this and will continue to do so”.
