Four Clubs Secure NPFL Promotion In NNL Super 8 Showdown

Warri Wolves, Wikki Tourists, Kun Khalifat, and Barau FC have sealed promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the ongoing 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs in Asaba.

After the group phase, the four sides emerged as the top two teams in Groups A and B, confirming their place in the 2025-2026 NPFL season.

Wikki Tourists of Bauchi who were relegated from the NPFL in 2023, sealed their return with a resounding 4–0 win over Yobe Desert Stars in their final group game.

Leading the charge was forward Wonderson, who recorded a first-half hat-trick before contributing to the fourth. With the win, Wikki finished top of Group A on five points, clinching promotion on goal difference.

Alongside Wikki from Group A is Barau FC, whose rise to the top tier has been anything but ordinary. The Kano-based outfit capped an unbeaten campaign with a 2–0 victory over Doma United, courtesy of strikes from Usman Maidubji and Mohammed Shammasu.

This marks Barau’s first appearance in the NPFL.

Over in Group B, Warri Wolves finished top. After stumbling in their opener against Osun United, the Delta side bounced back with two crucial wins to finish top of the group with six points and a +3 goal difference.

Coach Napoleon Aluma’s men now return to the NPFL after years of absence.

Their fellow Group B qualifiers are Kun Khalifat of Imo State. The club registered wins against Crown FC and Osun United to finish with six points, sealing a historic first-ever promotion to the NPFL.

There is still something to play for between Wikki Tourists and Warri Wolves

Before the curtain falls on the 2025 NNL season, Wikki Tourists and Warri Wolves will lock horns in the Super 8 final on Saturday, July 12. The match will determine the overall champions of Nigeria’s second-tier league, but both sides will go into it already assured of promotion.

Note that the newly promoted clubs will replace Heartland, Akwa United, Sunshine Stars, and Lobi Stars, all of whom were relegated after the 2024-2025 NPFL campaign.

Meanwhile, NPFL Chairperson, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has announced that the new season will kick off on August 22, 2026 and wrap up on May 24, 2026.
