The former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, has formally resigned from the party and declared his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the Coalition of Nigeria Political Groups.
Uli’s resignation, dated July 2, 2025, marks a significant blow to the PDP’s presence in the state and adds to the growing wave of defections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his resignation letter, Uli cited dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership style since 2022, accusing it of abandoning internal discipline, accountability, and ideological direction.
“Signs began to manifest that the PDP’s collapse was imminent when some members began to see themselves as demigods, beyond discipline, no matter the level of atrocities they committed,” Uli wrote.
He expressed disappointment in what he described as “a hijacked system”, saying the party no longer embodies the ideals on which it was founded in 1998.
Assuring his supporters that his political mission remains alive, Uli said the ADC presents “a more democratic, ideological, disciplined, and reliable platform” for achieving the goal of liberating both Nigeria and Katsina State from political stagnation.
“My commitment to serve the people and uphold democratic principles remains unchanged. I will continue this mission under the ADC, where genuine opposition thrives,” Uli said.
Naija News recalls that a group loyal to former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, recently announced its exit from the PDP, citing betrayal and internal deceit.
The group includes 287 former candidates and aspirants for positions in the House of Assembly, Chairmanship, and Councilorship, further weakening the PDP’s grassroots structures in the state.
Chairman of the Local Government Chairmanship Aspirants’ Forum, Alhaji Yasir Ibrahim, said: “The PDP is no longer an opposition party in Katsina. Hence, our decision to join the coalition for a stronger front.”
Inuwa Accuses Wike of Colluding with APC to Wreck PDP
Speaking during a political gathering in Katsina, Inuwa, now a key figure in the realigned opposition bloc, accused Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of working hand-in-hand with top APC members to destabilise the PDP.
“We will not fold our arms and allow a single individual to control a party with thousands of committed members in Katsina. We will resist all forms of external manipulation. Justice and equity must prevail,” Inuwa said.
He vowed to lead a coalition that would challenge both the ruling party and the internal saboteurs within the PDP.
