Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been handed a two-match suspension by FIFA following his red card during the Blues’ 3-1 loss to Flamengo at the ongoing Club World Cup.

Nicolas Jackson was shown a straight red card shortly after coming on in the second half of the clash against the Brazilian side at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 20. It was his second sending-off in just four appearances for Chelsea.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, FIFA confirmed the disciplinary action, citing Article 14, paragraph 1 (e) of its Disciplinary Code.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on Chelsea’s player Nicolas Jackson who was sent off as a result of a direct red card during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match between his team and CR Flamengo.

“A two-match suspension for breach under article 14 paragraph 1 e) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This decision is final and binding and cannot be appealed,” the statement read.

Following the incident, Jackson issued an apology on social media, expressing regret over his conduct.

Despite his absence, Chelsea bounced back with a convincing 3-0 win over Esperance in their final group match, sealing a place in the Round of 16, where they are set to face Portuguese giants Benfica.
