FIFA has confirmed that the official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place on December 5 in Las Vegas, according to ESPN.
The governing body selected the American city for the 2026 World Cup draw after ruling out proposed venues in co-host nations Canada and Mexico.
The tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is scheduled to be held next year and will feature 48 teams for the first time in the competition’s history, an increase from the traditional 32-team format.
Pachuca executive Pedro Cedillo confirmed the draw date, saying, “December 5, if I’m not mistaken, is precisely the day the draw takes place, or at the beginning of December.
“I understand it will be in Las Vegas, and that’s where we need to be present to provide information about the city of Pachuca, the state of Hidalgo and the two venues we have.”
The Las Vegas Convention Centre, which hosted the draw last time the United States held the tournament in 1994, is expected to serve as the venue once again.
Naija News reports that the Super Eagles remain mathematically in contention for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification with four matches left to play.
Currently, South Africa leads Nigeria’s Group C with 13 points from six games. The Super Falcons, who have managed just one win, four draws, and one loss, sit in fourth place with 7 points. The group also features Benin, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho.
Note that the group winner will qualify directly for the World Cup. The team that finishes second could still progress via the CAF play-offs and, if successful, play the inter-confederation play-offs.
