FC Barcelona claimed they are ready to replay their El Clasico, which ended 3-2 in favour of Real Madrid on Sunday, April 21.
On the said date, FC Barcelona visited Santiago Bernabéu to take on Spanish La Liga table toppers Real Madrid in their 32nd league game of the season.
Unfortunately, the hosts came from a goal down to record a 3-2 win over their fierce arch-rivals, FC Barcelona.
Barca had the best ball possession (54 percent) during the game and had more shots than their hosts. But all that ended in vain as the team suffered a massive setback in the title race.
In the 18th minute of the game, Vinicius Junior cancelled Andreas Christensen’s 6th-minute strike. In the 69th minute, FC Barcelona restored their lead through the boots of Fermín López.
Unfortunately, the game turned against Barca in the last 20 minutes of the encounter as Vázquez scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute, and Jude Bellingham scored the winner in injury time.
Why is FC Barcelona asking for a replay of the El Clasico
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, said he and his team will ask for a rematch once they find enough evidence to do so.
The club argued that Lamine Yamal’s flick, when the score was 1-1, was a goal even though the centre referee and the Video Assistant Referee insisted that the ball didn’t cross the line.
It is believed that if La Liga had a goal-line technology, the goal would have stood. Hence, FC Barcelona have requested access to all the necessary details related to the cancelled goal.
“We asked the RFEF to provide us with all the images and audios of Lamine’s cancelled goal”, the FC Barcelona president said.
“If it was a legal goal, we do not rule out asking to re-play the match.
“We will go further, we do not rule out anything.”
