A former Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and one-time House of Representatives member, C.I.D. Maduabum, has announced his resignation from the PDP, citing loss of party values and leadership decay.
In a statement released on Sunday, Maduabum confirmed his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the PDP “has been hijacked by self-serving, unscrupulous elements.”
According to the former federal lawmaker, the PDP no longer represents the ideals it once stood for. “It is now a shadow of its former self,” Maduabum said, blaming internal chaos, betrayal, and the erosion of values for his exit.
“Voices of reason are no longer welcome, and genuine reformers are vilified or silenced. I cannot, in good conscience, remain in a party that has lost its moral compass,” he further stated.
Explaining his choice of the African Democratic Congress as his new political home, Maduabum praised the party’s “growing credibility” and commitment to “good governance, accountability, and inclusion.”
He described the ADC as “a beacon of hope” for the country and said it “offers a credible democratic alternative.”
“I join the ADC not merely as a defector but as a reformer. The party presents a viable platform for principled, people-oriented leadership,” he said.
Maduabum also acknowledged the presence of “progressive-minded leaders like Mr Peter Obi” within the ADC fold, describing it as a key motivation for his defection.
He called on Nigerians frustrated with traditional political platforms to consider the ADC as a viable movement for national transformation.
“I urge all well-meaning Nigerians, especially those disillusioned by the traditional parties, to join the movement for a new Nigeria,” he said.
Maduabum pledged his continued dedication to justice, equity, and selfless service to the people.
